Some grammarians often say that the
following words are derived through the process of infixation:
ẹni ‘person’ à ẹni-kí-ẹni à ẹnikẹ́ni ‘whosoever’
àgbà ‘adult’ à àgbà-ní-àgbà à àgbàlágbà ‘middle aged’
The examples above are derived through
the process of interfixation. Examples of words derived through the process of
infixation are as follows:
Tagalog,
one of the major languages of Philippines[1]
[sulat] ‘write’ [su-mu-lat] [sumulat] ‘to write’
[bili] ‘buy’ [b-um-ili] [bumili] ‘to buy’
[kuha] ‘take, get’ [k-um-uha] [kumuha] ‘to take, to get’
